University of Bern, Switzerland (UB)

The Department of Periodontology (director Professor Sculean) is one of the most recognized clinics of periodontology in the world. It is involved in the postgraduate program of the European Federation of Periodontology. Guidelines for calculating risk of disease progression were set in Bern. Staff of the department involved in research: 8 dentists, 5 dental hygienists, 4 scientists (without the Laboratory of Oral Microbiology that belongs to the Department of Periodontology; Professor, two PhD student, three technicians).

The laboratory is highly experienced in analysis of periodontopathogens and biomarkers also for special purposes in samples obtained from the periodontal regions. Further, the expertise of the laboratory is determination of efficacy of antimicrobials against periodontopathogens (incl. within biofilms and interaction with host components and cells).
